Rudyard Kipling was a British author and poet, born in Bombay, India in 1865. He is renowned for his works of fiction and poetry, including 'The Jungle Book', 'Kim' and 'Just So Stories' which reflect his experiences and observations of British colonial life in India. Kipling was one of the most popular writers in England, both for children and adults, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His writing often celebrated British imperialism and he is also known for his poems, including 'Mandalay' and 'If—', the latter of which remains a popular motivational poem. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, Kipling's legacy is complex due to his associations with colonialist themes, yet he remains a significant figure in British literature. He died in 1936 in London.
